Department of Biblical Studies

About the Department

The Department of Biblical Studies is focused on the study of the Christian Bible, that is the Old and New Testaments, including all those questions which are related to their study. These consist not only of the study of the biblical languages (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek) and other languages which are important for the interpretation of the biblical text, such as Latin or for example even Coptic, but also literature of a related character, such as the apocryphal gospels. There is finally a focus on the study of the presentation of the biblical text as exemplified in both old and modern translations of the Bible. The study of the history of interpretation of the biblical text is also related.
