The invitation is aimed at qualified students and doctoral candidates in theology, religious studies and related disciplines, especially from Central and Eastern European countries. The summer school will take place in two locations: Landau and Osnabrück.
During the summer school you will have the opportunity to deal with a wide range of different approaches to theological research on transformation.
In this context, foundations of anthropology and theology of creation plays just as much a role as the question of the extent to which theology itself represents a transformative force. In addition, it is about the relationship between religion and society, which is reflected in discussions with different currents, e.g. LGBQT * community in Islam, right-wing extremism in Germany, and nationalism and populism in Central and Eastern Europe.
Another focus of the summer school is the question of what can be learned from historical, political transformations for the present. Historical events - such as liberation movements from modern times to the present - should be reflected on (Hambach Festival, Peaceful Revolution, transformation of gender roles in society and religions, etc.).
Furthermore, the summer school deals with possible synergy effects between “sustainability and transformation”. In particular, the question of human responsibility in view of climate change and technological progress will be deepened through lectures and an excursion.
The program of the summer school includes participation in the program taught by Prof. Dr. Margit Eckholt prepared international congress of the European Society for Catholic Theology in Osnabrück. Thanks to this, the circle of high-quality speakers is increase beyond Europe: to the USA and Latin America.
Participation in the summer school is possible after submit an application in advance with relevant work-in-progress papers. During the summer school the papers are presented and can be further developed on the basis of discussions for their publication afterwards.
The summer school enables contact with the most recently developments, presented by internationally recognized theologians, an insight into the German academic system and networking among the participants.
The organizers assume that the summer school can take place in attendance. Due to the uncertain pandemic situation, however, a hybrid way of working cannot be ruled out.
Applications with a personal presentation (previous course of studies and doctorate, possible professional experience) and with a short description of your own contribution must be sent until June 25, 2021 Prof. Dr. Elzbieta Adamiak (please only digitally adamiak@uni-landau.de). You will be informed by June 30, 2021 whether your application has been accepted.
The costs of the summer school are largely covered by the organizers.
